AIAA offers tutorials at forums – at no additional cost - to provide short overviews of topics of potential interest to attendees. They are free to forum registrants.

Introduction to the
Use of NASA Chemical Equilibrium Applications (CEA)
NASA Chemical Equilibrium Applications (CEA) is a program that calculates chemical equilibrium product concentrations from any set of reactants and determines thermodynamic and transport properties of the product mixture. This tutorial will provide a brief overview of the tool, some theoretical
background, and basic instructions on using CEA for mixed and reactive flows.
Pressure Gain Combustion
This tutorial will focus on explaining the main challenges of rotating detonation engines and highlight all potential applications. The lectures will present the current practices for cycle modeling, CFD modeling, and experimental assessment. The main constraints, as well as future
research opportunities, will be discussed, opening now horizons for multidisciplinary research in the area of propulsion.

Hybrid Rocket Technology
Hybrid rockets combine the advantages of solid and liquid propulsion to form high-performance systems that are simpler and lower cost than conventional alternatives. This tutorial will provide an introduction to the principles of hybrid rockets and survey the latest developments in the
Propulsion Simulation Using NPSS and OTAC
Propulsion system simulation is relevant at all stages of development, from preliminary design through production testing. This tutorial will provide insight into the modeling and analysis of propulsion systems using one of the more common simulation environments. In addition, this tutorial will
cover a recent turbomachinery modeling development by NASA Glenn Research Center.
Assessment of Hybrid Electric Systems
This tutorial will focus on the required components and procedures for building a hybrid-electric or turbo-electric system model for aircraft applications. The tutorial will also discuss standard guidelines for presenting the results of an electric propulsion system study,
including a list of standard assumptions to declare and desired system performance outputs.
Using the Neyer and Other Methods
This tutorial will be led by Dr. Barry Neyer, subject-matter expert, and cover the topic of threshold/sensitivity testing, which is used in the aerospace community for studying the initiation characteristics of energetic components and systems. The first part of the tutorial will discuss the basic
concepts, and the second part will discuss the advantages/disadvantages of the various test methods.
Guideline Standard for Explosive Devices used in Launch Vehicles, Spacecraft
This tutorial will be led by energetic components and systems (ECS) subject-matter experts and authors of the AIAA S-113A-2016 standard that guides the design, manufacture, test, and performance certification of explosive systems. Discussions will be focused on key criteria to certify safe
and reliable performance of ECS, and incorporate history and lessons learned from space and launch vehicle programs;
an introductory for young engineers interested in ordnance applications and rocket science.
