NASA’s InSight Mars Lander Performs First Engine Burn

29 May 2018
SPACE reported that NASA’s InSight Mars lander successfully “performed its first engine burn on Tuesday (May 22), refining its course toward the Red Planet.” Mission crew plan to perform five additional burns before the lander touches down on Mars November 26. Four of the lander’s thrusters not used in Tuesday’s burn also “fire autonomously every day to keep InSight’s antenna facing Earth and its solar panels facing the sun, NASA officials said.” NASA plans additional burns for October 12, November 11, November 18, and November 25.
