US Air Force Working With Aerojet Rocketdyne To Determine AR1 Investment

22 May 2017
Inside Defense reported that the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) announced last week that it is “actively working” with Aerojet Rocketdyne to determine future US Air Force funding for the firm’s AR1 rocket engine development. SMC Launch Enterprise Directorate Director Claire Leon said that the service’s 2016 agreement with Aerojet – worth a maximum of $536 million – could cover full development, testing, and certification through 2019, but that no decision has been made on a funding level or a funding time frame.  (Image: RD-180 test firing.
